Who is Katie?

I believe in a holistic and strengths-based approach in counseling. The mind, body and spirit each need to be addressed to have a successful outcome. My areas of interest are mood disorders, depression, anxiety, transitional issues, chronic illness, women’s issues, couples counseling, substance abuse and college and career counseling. I provide individual, family and group counseling. I draw from family systems theory, attachment theory and cognitive behavioral theory in sessions. On a more personal note, I went undiagnosed with Lyme disease for years and have a unique understanding of autoimmune and Lyme disease and its impact on emotional health. What is her expertise?

I have credits in lay counseling and am comfortable incorporating prayer with my clients as well as providing counseling from a faith based perspective. I am a volunteer coordinator for a pregnancy center through the church I attend and have also been involved in women’s leadership roles.

Katie’s practicum included working in an adult partial inpatient program as a mental health group therapist conducting intakes, facilitating psychoeducational groups for clients with severe mental illness, and monitoring individual progress through consultations. She was also employed in a wrap-around program working with children with autism and other behavioral issues.

Katie also worked as a counselor for Harrisburg Area Community College. She provided personal and academic/career counseling for students, presented on mental health topics, conducted mental health referrals and crisis interventions, facilitated new student and test taking skills workshops and devised career specific educational plans for advisees. Noteworthy is the proposal and model she designed to address the mental health needs of students at the college who were at-risk.

What else should we know about Katie?

Before coming to Finding Solutions Counseling Centers, she was an outpatient therapist at Catholic Charities in Pennsylvania conducting weekly individual psychotherapy sessions, assigning diagnoses and writing treatment plans. Her focus was mainly on transitional issues and mood disorders in the adult population.

My hobbies include photography, jewelry-making, field hockey, and meeting new people!
