Who is Dr Kodnovich?
Dr. Beatriz Kodnovich specializes in child, adolescent, individual, and family therapy. She has a Ph.D. in Counselor Education and Supervision from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University; a Masters in Psychology, Development, and Education from Universidad de Cádiz, Spain; and a Specialist Degree in Clinical Psychology from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. She is currently a resident in counseling in the state of Virginia working towards her LPC license. Prior to coming to the USA, Dr. Kodnovich was a licensed psychologist in Brazil where she owned a private practice and worked with children, adolescents, and adults in individual and family therapy. She has also worked as a psychologist in different settings such as schools, hospital, child’s protective services, women’s center, and non-profit organizations. Such a broad range of experience has allowed Dr. Kodnovich not only to grow professionally, but also to reaffirm her passion for working in the clinical counseling field and helping others.
Dr. Kodnovich has conducted several research studies in the psychology/counseling field, some of which she presented at national and international conferences. She is also the author of published articles and has been invited to speak in various settings in Brazil, Spain, and in the USA. Dr. Kodnovich co-taught Master’s level courses in the Counselor Education Master’s Program at Virginia Tech and supervised the clinical work of counselors in training in both the school and mental health tracks.

Dr. Kodnovich is an empathic, caring, and non-directive therapist. Her theoretical perspective is influenced by the phenomenological-existential approach and humanistic philosophical thoughts. More specifically, her theoretical perspective is based on the Client Centered Approach developed by Carl Rogers. She believes that every person is constantly making choices, taking responsibility, and giving meaning to what happens in their lives. Dr. Kodnovich believes that, when receiving the right kind of support and space to process feelings and emotions, everyone has the potential of overcoming difficulties and growing as a person.

Dr. Kodnovich is married and has three small children. In the past six years, she has been experiencing the joys of motherhood and learning how to balance her two passions: family and work. She likes to say that her calling is not only to be a good wife and good mother to her little ones at home; but also to help other children, individuals and families overcome difficulties and experience growth and internal peace.She is fluent in three languages and can offer therapy in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
